Toronto, Ontario (September 4, 2015) – Hills Moving, a company providing moving services in Toronto and surrounding areas, has acquired Workers Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage. The said insurance is a new addition to the company this year.

The management of Hills Moving decided to acquire WSIB coverage because they believe it is important for the people that make up the company, both the employers and workers. The aim of the company is to create safe and reliable working conditions for the team of movers so they can perform on the job without worry, which will enhance the company’s services and, in turn, provide peace of mind to clients.

The Ministry of Labour established the WSIB under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act of 1997 (WSIA). As per Part II of this Act, the WSIB put forth a responsibility to promote health and safety in workplaces, and to reduce the instances of occupational diseases and workplace injuries. The WSIB carries out these goals through education, training, and accreditation.

The WSIB coverage is part of the overall initiative, encompassing workplace compensation for businesses in Ontario. If a worker suffers an injury while on the job, and is covered, he will receive support and protection from the WSIB. This means that employers generally won’t need to worry about a lawsuit resulting from work-related injuries.

WSIB coverage provides multiple benefits to employers in addition to the previously mentioned avoidance of work-related injury lawsuit. Covered employers receive a collective liability insurance that is competitive and no-fault. They also won’t have to pay Harmonised Sales Tax (HST) on WSIB premiums, which are tax-deductible.

For workers, the WSIB covers a wide range of services, including health care cost coverage, replacement of net earnings (up to 85 per cent) beginning the day after injury, special allowances, and support in returning to work. The management of Hills Moving acquired the coverage as they believe it is essential to movers because of the activities their work involves as they operate in their service areas, including Oshawa and Durham region. Many other similar businesses in the Ontario don’t have the WSIB coverage yet.
